Big rounds of applause for a non-scary M.Night Shyamalan movie! I really liked this one! I'm so glad I watched it, and I feel bad that it only lasted a week in some cinemas, because I think it deserves more profit! :P
It's just so cool. It's just as weird as the other M.Night Shyamalan films, but not as twisted/dark. I think it's a perfect example of a story that is both character and plot-driven, as the story was really interesting, but it wouldn't have been nearly as interesting if it didn't have such quirky characters. I never thought I'd ever use the word "harmony" to describe a movie, but this is one of those ocassions that call for such words.
I hope that nobody judges this movie based on the fact that the microphone can be seen at the top of the screen, and the hand-held camera scenes are hurting to the eyes. I really actually like how it seems like a low-budget film, with only one setting and not very famous actors, but you know that it's not really one of those shady art film types.
I liked all the characters, oddly. Even those that probably were there to be annoying, I liked still. And though I'm not too crazy about the whole anti-war-man-is-evil theme because really, it's not so new, I like the magical elements and the being-like-a-child thing that the story incorporates.
Two thumbs up and if I used stars to rate the movies I reviewed, I'd give this one the most number of stars. The ending was spot on, and the scene that you could see through water and stuff, well, it's such a nice break from the usual movies you see, even those that claim to be weird.
