Okay, I know I said I would never watch scary movies again, but I guess my support for the local movie industry is stronger. And my curiosity as well. I haven't seen any movie from Regal Films since the old Shake, Rattle and Roll after all. So, how did this movie fare?
The story wasn't actually very complicated. Twist was a little predictable. I think my friend and I figured it out not even half an hour into the movie. And the "pamahiin" title (superstition) didn't make any sense at all. I mean, sure, they mentioned a lot of strange beliefs, but what did any of them have to do with the story? Nothing. Nada. The whole incident would've happened still whether or not they followed the superstitions. Or maybe I just don't know enough about the superstitions that's why I didn't think they were relevant. Still, the fact that they were hardly noticeable, except when the characters mentioned them, I think, indicates that they're not really the theme of the film.
I'm glad that Iya Villania (VJ Iya) was in this film. Because of her acting skills (or lack thereof), it was not that scary. They never explained either why she was always the one who saw the ghosts when there was never a mention of her having a third eye, and the fact that she didn't really have much to do with the issue of the main characters as she was the "girlfriend from abroad" and not part of the original group of friends of Dennis Trillo, Paolo Contis and Marianne Rivera. I mean really, what issues could the ghosts have against her? But, whatever. Like I said, I'm glad, because if things made sense and her acting was convincing, I probably would've been scared shitless and would still be shaking now.
I'm increasingly getting scared of Paolo Contis on account of the last few movies of his I've seen (Trip, Moments of Love, Nasaan si Francis), he's always portraying some kind of bad guy. Well, I guess that's good acting for you, so I'm not really complaining.
My mom asked me if this was good enough for international release. I thought about it and said that, although it's a good local one, I don't think it's ready for the rest of the world yet.
