Okay, I wasn't going to see this movie either, but seeing as I haven't been to the cinemas in almost two weeks,
I let my sister talk me into it, though even if she didn't, I don't think I would've missed anything.
Don't get me wrong, I normally like sci-fi flicks (Signs, Evolution), but I've definitely seen X-Files episodes better than this one. I'm not saying it sucked. It's okay, but that's mostly it. A lot of scenes were pretty surprising--all the times that the aliens sucked people into the sky--those got me jumping in my seat, but the part when the alien guy transforms into something not human, well, maybe it just lacked a bit of build-up, because it wasn't scary at all. That was pretty disappointing really, since I thought at first that the aliens in this movie would be really creepy because you wouldn't see how they looked, so that scene pretty much messed up the scary factor for me.
The story was pretty simple, it didn't require too much thinking. That's probably why I didn't really like it, because I'm used to sci-fi being all mysterious and confusing. But the twist in this story was easy to predict, and I think they should've made the part where Telly (Julianne Moore) finally forgot her son Sam (who looks like a young Backstreet Boy), a little longer for it to be more convincing. And although the ending was plausible and fair, I think they made it too easy. Or maybe I'm just sadistic because I was hoping Telly (And what kind of a name is 'Telly' anyway? I keep thinking that someone should say 'phone' after it) would really lose her son. Hehehe.
