Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I'm sure, that for the people who know me and have seen this movie, it would be glaringly obvious that it's the kind of movie I'd like. And why wouldn't I like it? It is:

1. Mainly for kids, but the story wasn't so shallow that the adults who see it would be bored.;
2. Starring Johnny Depp, do I really need to say more about that?
3. Starring Freddie Highmore, as a skinny loser kid who's wise for his age.;
4. Set in a very magical, dream-like place.;
5. The kind of movie that can make you cry, even at the beginning.

The oompa-loompas were fine; I loved the song for Veruca Salt, but I'm not really a big fan of song and dance numbers in movies that aren't musicals (i.e. Moulin Rouge, The Sound of Music, etc.) so, I don't have much praises for that. But the music in general that was used in the movie was great.

I absolutely loved how ironic it was for the greatest chocolate maker in the world to be the son of the dentist. Although they were kinda dark, I really liked the flashbacks. And I like the character Willy Wonka too. I mean, it was just great how he didn't know how to talk to people and had to look at cue cards just to know what to say, and how he forgets the things he's already said. And his inventions, well, who wouldn't be impressed with a man who truly believes that anything's possible, and can make the impossible things happen?

None of the kids annoyed me. Maybe some of them were supposed to be annoying, but I wasn't annoyed. Even if they were supposed to be exaggerated, they were easy to believe as real people.

That's probably why I loved this movie. Because there was nothing not to like.
